It has never been easier to get to France’s capital of gastronomy
Eurostar runs services to Lyon Part Dieu from St Pancras International via Ashford in Kent. The fare to Lyon, which now has regular direct services from London, looks particularly attractive. Travellers can book single tickets to the city from as little as £44.50 one way.
A great destination
Eurostar’s recent launch of a direct service from St Pancras means a travel time of just four hours 41 minutes from London to Lyon. As the gastronomic capital of the South of France, a trip to Lyon is a must for any foodie, while there’s plenty to keep even the most devoted culture vulture happy between meals.
With a rich history of art and performance, from its beautifully-preserved Roman amphitheatre to the striking Opéra Nouvel, it’s hardly surprising that two of Lyon’s most famous sons were the Lumière brothers, inventors of the motion picture.
And thanks to a packed festival schedule – from Nuits de la Fourvière each summer to Fête des Lumieres, which brightens up four dark winter nights in December – there’s always a cultural buzz in the air.
